Lancashire search for young music stars

lancashire young musicians stars

Do you have what it takes to be in a band or youth orchestra?

Lancashire Music Service are holding three open days for young musicians interested in joining the county bands and orchestras.

The open days take place on Saturday 7 June, Saturday 21 June and Saturday 22 June. They’re open to any young person in the north-west.

The music service is part of Lancashire County Council, and has been providing music support to schools, pupils and the community for over 50 years.

County Councillor Matthew Tomlinson, cabinet member for children, young people and schools, said: “If you’re interested in joining a band or an orchestra to take your musical talents to the next level, we’re hosting a number of open days in June! .

“Young people are invited to come along and sit in on our rehearsals, find out what’s involved and even join in.

“Our music groups meet regularly throughout the year for rehearsals, concerts, courses and even overseas tours in the summer holidays. They’re a brilliant chance to make new friends and see new places, while playing some great music.

“If you decide to join one of the groups, you will get the chance to perform at venues across the county and festivals such as the National Festival of Music for Youth.”

Dates for the countywide open days:

  • Jazz Orchestras, Saturday 7 June, 10am – 3.30p, The Woodlands Centre, Southport Road, Chorley
