Manchester Christmas Markets makes Europe’s top ten!

Known as the original, biggest and best Christmas Markets in the UK, Manchester Christmas Markets have now been voted as one of the best in Europe by the European Best Destinations organisation.

Manchester is the only UK city to make the top ten list, coming up against such illustrious festive cities as Dresden, Strasbourg, Brussels, Stockholm and Vienna.

The vote organised by the Brussels-based organisation collected 71,622 votes during only ten days of competition, pitching 15 top European destinations against one another.

Manchester took ninth spot in the list beating of six rivals and closely missing out to Cologne in eighth place.

With 11 days of trading left at Manchester’s Christmas Markets, there’s still plenty of time to experience the UK’s favourite festive destination and see why the attraction is consistently voted one of Europe’s best.

Cllr Pat Karney, Manchester’s Christmas spokesperson, said: “We’ve said it for years and now it’s official. Once again Manchester has been named the best Christmas market in the UK and one of the best in Europe and the world!

“We have welcomed visitors from across the world who have travelled to the city just to see the Christmas markets – but of course, once they are here, they fall in love with Manchester too.”

“Manchester is a wonderful city to visit in December. People celebrate Christmas around the city and there are beautiful Christmas decorations. Do not miss it!”

“The reputation of the Christmas market in Manchester has gone beyond the border s of the UK for a long time. It’s one of the most beautiful ones in Europe and Manchester is a great destination for Christmas, for shopping too!”
