Manchester fostering events this April

Foster carers can make a huge difference to a child’s life at a time when they need it most, and anyone who is interested in fostering is invited to find out more at one of two special events coming up at the Forum Centre, Wythenshawe.

The first event is being held this Thursday 9 April from 10 am – 4 pm, and the second is on Saturday 25 April, from 12 pm – 5 pm.

Manchester City Council’s fostering team will be at both events along with existing experienced foster carers who will be more than happy to talk through the different types of fostering, what the process involves, the benefits of fostering, as well as answering any other questions would be foster carers might have.

Foster carer Sue from south Manchester has been a foster carer for nearly 20 years. During this time she has successfully fostered nearly 30 children and young people, and it’s a job she has grown to love.

She said: “Fostering is the most rewarding job I’ve ever had. It’s not the easiest job in the world and can be a bit challenging at times, but there’s always support there to help you through the hard bits, and there’s nothing quite like seeing the difference you make every day to the children and young people you look after. I wouldn’t have been doing it for 20 years if this didn’t make it all worth while.”

Anyone who loves children and has the time and energy to devote to a child is encouraged to come along and see how they could help change a child’s life for the better.

Councillor Sheila Newman, Executive Member Children’s Services, Manchester City Council, said: “Foster carers make an enormous difference to the lives of vulnerable children and young people, and anyone who thinks they can make a difference to a child or young person should get in touch with us to find out more.”

For anyone who can’t get along to either of the events coming up, more information is also available at
