sky-ride-manchester-2015

Thousands of local people are gearing up for Sky Ride Manchester with Great Britain Cycling Team’s Matt Crampton, this Sunday (August 2).

The free event takes place on a brilliant route with roads closed especially for the event in and around the city centre, starting at 10am and finishing at 4pm.

It’s the seventh time Manchester Council has hosted a Sky Ride Big Bike Event, in partnership with British Cycling and Sky. An event that is always well attended, with over 10,000 people taking part each year.

Matt Crampton and Cllr Chris Paul, will officially open the event at 10am from The National Cycling Centre before Crampton leads out the ride.

Matt Crampton will be meeting cycling fans throughout the day, visiting attractions along the route and signing cyclists’ Sky Ride bibs at The National Cycling Centre from 2.20pm.

With two start points at The National Cycling Centre and Chinatown, cyclists can ride as much or as little of the route as they want, between 10am and 4pm.

The 12km route takes cyclists through the BMX arena and around the centre of the Velodrome at the National Cycling Centre, by Philips Park, the Etihad Campus and through the heart of Chinatown in central Manchester. Free entertainment will be on offer in the Tricks & Tunes area at Etihad Campus, including extreme stunt cycling shows and Go Ride racing.

All the roads on the routes will be closed to traffic from 9am to 5pm. Signed diversions will be in place and residents and businesses have been notified. Follow this link for more information on the road closures.
