Lancashire Festive Christmas Events

TRIPS to the Manchester Christmas market, ‘Secret Santa’ and events to raise money for the Philippines appeal are just some of the many activities taking place in Lancashire’s young people’s centres over the festive period.

The events are being organised by Lancashire County Council’s Young People’s Service. Most of the activities are free and open to young people between the age of 13 and 19. They will run across Lancashire’s twelve districts.

Matthew Tomlinson, Lancashire County Council’s cabinet member for children, young people and schools, said:

“Looking at the list of events on offer in Lancashire’s young people’s centres, I am hugely impressed by the range of opportunities for young people this ! Christmas.

“Not only are we holding traditional Christmas parties and other fun events such as quiz nights, we’re also taking the chance to remind young people of the importance of staying safe during the festive period. For instance, a number of centres are running alcohol awareness and sexual health sessions.

“The other thing that’s hugely impressive is that young people are taking the time to think about others locally and further afield who are less fortunate than themselves. In particular, I noted one group who are delivering a hamper to a care home and the fundraising initiatives for people affected by the recent disaster in the Philippines.

“I’d like to pass on my best wishes to all of Lancashire’s young people and remind them that if they do need information or advice, The Line will be open from 10am to 10pm throughout the Christmas and New Year period. Young people are welcome to ring on 0800 511111 or text on 07786 511111.

“Young people can also access the webtalk and email services at www.lancashire.gov.uk/yps. There’s also a Facebook page at www.facebook.com/lancashireyps.”
