Manchester Youth Council gets home in Manchester Town Hall

Manchester’s Youth Council are celebrating the opening of a permanent new home for them in Manchester Town Hall.

The Youth Council have been given their own office space inside the Town Hall to reflect how serious the Council is about working with young people and listening to their voice.

The official opening of the room was carried out by Manchester City Council Leader, Sir Richard Leese, and coincides with the Youth Council’s first birthday as it is just over twelve months since the Youth Council was first launched.

The room has been designed by the young people themselves and will be used as the office base for youth councillors to work on their campaigns, and for the UK Youth Parliament members from Manchester Youth Council, as well as for youth related activities.

Councillor Rosa Battle Lead Member on young people’s issues, Manchester City Council, said: “We take the views of young people very seriously and to reflect this we felt it was important the members of the Youth Council had a place of their own at the heart of local democracy here in the Town Hall.

“The Youth Council is going from strength to strength and we look forward to working even more closely with them in the future.”
