Blackpool Launches exciting Las Vegas-style shows

Blackpool’s exciting new Las Vegas-style projection shows was launched last Friday.

The shows, which run for around 10 minutes and will project onto the front of The Blackpool Tower building, is set to be one of the most unique and exciting free spectacles available anywhere in the UK.

Using the latest in digital mapping projection technology and created by designers who have worked on the World Cup Final and the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, the show brings The Blackpool Tower building to life, gives a nod to Blackpool’s history and incorporates music and iconic imagery.

The projection show is part of this year’s Blackpool Illuminations display (Sept 4 – Nov 8) and is funded thanks to a £2m grant from the Coastal Communities Fund along with contributions from Blackpool Council and LeftCoast.

The grant will fund Blackpool’s new LightPool project which includes a series of shows, exhibitions and a widening of the Illuminations display to include more of Blackpool town centre, as well as the Promenade.

Cllr Gillian Campbell, Deputy Leader of Blackpool Council, said: “We’re incredibly excited about the new show. It’s going to be a spectacle to rival any similar show in the UK and even Europe. I hope people will enjoy this and the fireworks championships and have a fantastic time.”

Coastal Communities Minister Mark Francois said: “I am delighted we have been able to support Blackpool Illumination’s through a £2m grant from the Coastal Communities Fund. We are committed to drive investment in the north and help our seaside communities thrive. This investment will help boost the local economy and the Northern Powerhouse.”

It is expected as many as 50,000 people will be on Blackpool Promenade to watch the first week of the resort’s annual Fireworks Championship, featuring teams from Canada, China and France who will make the perfect audience for the new show.

The free events are among the most popular features in Blackpool’s exciting calendar, featuring jaw-dropping displays – synched to music – from some of the most talented and technically gifted fireworks engineers in the world and attracting tens of thousands of visitors to the Promenade.

This year’s events take place every Friday. Last Friday was China and now the French team take to the stage on September 18 and the Canadians bid to retain their title on September 25.

The winner will be announced during the exciting finale event on October 2 which features a display from the UK’s very own, Titanium Fireworks team..
