Lancaster Library is showing free films every Tuesday evening until Tuesday 22 December.
The screenings have been organised through community film club, Metamorphosis Open Cinema.
The project is run by Lancashire County Council in partnership with Metamorphosis Open Cinema and LGBT Out in the Bay.
Open Cinema gives people the chance to programme films they want to watch, meet the professional filmmakers that inspire them, and make films based on their own ideas and experiences.
A wide range of films are shown and events are held to entertain, educate and create a shared experience for the people taking part.
The project helps to improve the quality of life for people affected by substance and alcohol abuse and dependency in north Lancashire and the surrounding area.
County Councillor Marcus Johnstone, Lancashire County Council’s cabinet member for environment, planning and cultural services, said: “I’m a big believer in libraries being used as venues for people to meet and that films don’t have to be screened in traditional cinemas.
“The film club will be a great opportunity for people to socialise, as well as to watch great films.
“The project also has a more far-reaching benefit as it focuses very much on social inclusion and wellbeing, while also promoting an appreciation of the arts.
“It also adds to the recreational offer in this part of Lancashire.”
The film club is open to everyone to enjoy in an informal setting. It also offers the ‘Take Five’ series of filmmaking programmes to help people to develop their creative skills. People can gain new technical skills in filmmaking and to develop their team work, communication and problem solving skills.
The project also offers ‘Film in Focus’, a discussion group in an informal setting for anyone who wants to talk about the film they have just seen and how the issues impact on their own lives.
