Creative pop-up shop for Blackpool

A new pop-up shop, offering locally produced fashion, jewellery arts and crafts, is set open in Blackpool.

‘Shop Boutique’, which will be located next to Quilligan’s on Church Street adjacent to St John’s Square, will feature the works of 17 local and regional designers, manufacturers and artists led by trendy pop-culture fashion label, Me&Yu.

There will also be products from natural soap maker, Soapure, the Crafty Cloth clothing label, fabric printing company Squirrel and Tiffin, glassmaker Collette Halstead and unique jewellery from Yappers Chappers Design.

The shop will be officially opened to the public at 6pm on the Thursday 5 December by the Mayor of Blackpool, Cllr Eddie Collett and will remain open for two weeks only until Saturday 21 December providing a pre-Christmas shopping treat for residents and visitors.

Cllr Fred Jackson, cabinet member for urban regeneration, said:  “This is a really innovative way of bringing formerly vacant retail units back to life whilst showcasing the tremendous creative talent that exists in our community.

“The shop will add value to the shopping experience in the lead up to Christmas and all I can do is encourage shoppers to pay it a visit and see it for themselves.”

And Mayor of Blackpool, Cllr Collett, added:  “I’m really looking forward to meeting the local designers who often don’t get the chance to sell their products on the high street.

“This is an excellent initiative and reinforces the need to shop local and get behind our small businesses such as on Small Business Saturday on 7 December.

The pop up shop is the brainchild of Blackpool Council’s creative industry centre, FYCreatives and the GrundyArtGallery and is supported by Crown Entertainment Ltd.

Co-organiser, Garth Gratrix, from Blackpool Council, said: “Our first attempt at a pop up shop was successful but held during the summer and a bit off the beaten track.

“Our second pop up will have a better high street presence and will remain open on late night Thursdays.
