The power of corporate social responsibility to galvanise local communities and up the stakes in charity fundraising in Lancashire has been boosted by two multinational companies.
Global giants Barclays Bank and Samsung have lent a hand to local telephone systems installer Abbey Telecom by match funding its money-raising activities for Derian House Children’s Hospice.
The telecoms firm is now well on the way to securing its £10,000 target for the Chorley based charity. And with over £7,200 raised so far, Abbey Telecom is appealing to more corporate benefactors to throw their hats into the ring and contribute.
“Both Barclays and Samsung are suppliers and partners,” explains Abbey Telecom managing director Tony Raynor. “As soon as we decided to adopt Derian House Children’s Hospice for fundraising activity, we wanted to get them involved at community level.
“Corporate social responsibility really can influence the success of local fundraising initiatives, and we were determined to actively seek private sector leverage and match funding for donations from bigger business partners.
“The involvement of local contacts from both companies has given our fundraising a massive boost. We would like to thank everyone who has been involved thus far, as well as ask other businesses to help us reach our £10,000 target.”
Barclays Corporate Banking has contributed over £2,300 from active participation in events and a pound for pound match funding pledge, with Samsung donating a further £1,000 to boost the remainder raised by enthusiastic Abbey Telecom employees, suppliers, friends, families and supporters.
Mr Raynor adds: “Now we’re making a final big push to our £10,000 target before Easter. Progress so far clearly shows how the support of corporate giants can make a real contribution and a bigger difference to improve the social wellbeing of local areas.
“With Lent rapidly approaching, we hope that local firms and people will be inspired to donate savings made from giving up things like chocolate, crisps and alcohol!”
Derian House Children’s Hospice is renowned throughout the region as being at the forefront of children’s palliative and respite care.
