ONE of Liverpool’s finest buildings will open its doors to the public next week.
From Monday (18 August) residents and visitors are invited to take in the beautiful surroundings of one of the city’s finest surviving 18th century buildings.
Liverpool’s Lord Mayor, Councillor Erica Kemp said: “Liverpool’s Town Hall is a stunning building and these open days are a fantastic opportunity for members of the public to come along and have a good look around.
“We often never visit the amazing places that we have on our own doorstep so I would like to encourage as many people as possible to stop by and visit us.
“There is something for everyone to enjoy, whether you love art, history or would simply like to see the famous balcony that has been the focus for great Liverpudlians such as the Beatles and more recently our giant grandmother.
“And with new art exhibitions on display there is even more reason to stop by and take a look.”
This year will see art exhibitions from local freelance photographer Lewis Andersson and Emma Lenfestey both of whom will be showing images from their recent shoot at Liverpool Town Hall.
Open days will take place on:
Monday 18th August (10am – 4pm) – Guided tour 11am and 2pm
Tuesday 19th August (10am – 4pm) – Guided tour 11am and 2pm

Wednesday 27th August (10am – 4pm) – Guided tour 11am and 2pm
Thursday 28th August (10am – 4pm) – Guided tour 11am and 2pm
The guided tours will be led by local historian Steve Binns MBE, and will cost £3 per person (free for under-16s). Places can be booked by calling 0151 233 3020, or by calling in to the Town Hall itself.
Some of the highlights visitors will be able to see include the splendid Flemish wooden fireplace from 1893, hand-painted tiles in the reception area showing the Liverpool’s Coat of Arms and three of the finest Georgian chandeliers in Europe weighing more than one tonne each.
Throughout the week, the Lord Mayor will be raising money for her four charities – The Alzheimer’s Society; The County of Merseyside Branch of The Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA); Teenage Cancer Trust; The Reader Organisation.
As part of this focus on the charities, on Monday Lady Mayoress Rachel Plant will hold a series of free Dementia Friends sessions. These sessions will talk about what it means to become a Dementia Friend – it’s about learning a little about what it’s like to live with dementia, and turn that understanding into action. This could be as simple as helping someone with their supermarket shop, or make sure they find the right bus or train to travel on.
Sessions are 45 minutes long and refreshments will be provided. To book your place, call 0151 233 4632 or email Tanya.baucher@liverpool.gov.uk.
