Shops and restaurants across the city centre are set to offer shoppers some incredible deals as part of the Manchester Day celebrations.
In partnership with Manchester BID (Business Improvement District), Manchester Day visitors can expect to be wowed by the parade and entertainment across the city before being wowed by the generous offers of retailers in the city centre.
Manchester Day attracts tens of thousands of people each year and the event is expected to boost the local economy by up to £1m – helping to support traders of all size, from high-street giants to independent boutiques.
Visitors can find bargains on a huge range of items including food and drink, clothing, homeware, cosmetics and toiletries – but the offers will only be available on Manchester Day.
Stores offering discounts include Barbour, Jack Wills, Moss Menswear, Kipling, Ryman, The White Company, Burger King and KFC with Selfridges, Jigsaw and The Body Shop offering complimentary activities including engraving, style advice and mini treatments. Full list of discounts and in-store activities included below.
Manchester Day returns for a sixth outing on Sunday, 14 June from midday until 6pm. The star attraction – the Manchester Day Parade – begins at 1pm from Liverpool Road, weaves its way up Deansgate and past the Town Hall, before coming to an end in Exchange Square.
The theme – Game On! – celebrates the idea that games have influenced and shaped modern Manchester. This could be a celebration of the city’s sporting prowess; the creation of the world’s first computer, Baby; or a nod to the city’s computer game industry and the next generation of coders.
Whatever Game On! means to you, the theme promises imaginations gone wild. Expect a dazzling array of giant characters, vibrant costumes, a kaleidoscope of colour, a cacophony of sound and music.
Before and after the parade don’t miss a fabulous array of entertainment, dance, street theatre and music that will take over each of the city centre squares, including: Albert Square, Great Northern Square, St Ann’s Square and Exchange Square.
Cllr Pat Karney, Chair of Manchester Day, said: “If Manchester Day wasn’t already offering enough, local businesses getting on board to offer exclusive deals to visitors is the cherry on the cake. It’s a great chance to get the family together and spoil yourself as the city celebrates around you.”
Cllr Rosa Battle, Manchester City Council’s executive member for culture and leisure, said: “Manchester Day – and other major outdoor events in the city centre – is vital in bringing visitors into the city centre and these events give local businesses a real economic boost. It’s fantastic so many retailers have got into the spirit of the event and we hope visitors can take advantage of some of the deals on offer.”
Jane Sharrocks, Heart of Manchester BID Chair and General Manager of Selfridges Exchange Square, said: “Driving footfall into the city’s retail core is one of our key objectives, so partnering up with Manchester Day, a popular event in the city centre events calendar and one which brings in tens of thousands of visitors, makes perfect sense for our retailers. With some fantastic discounts available on the day and a variety of in-store activities taking place across the city centre, Manchester Day is not to be missed! “
