A brand new library opened its doors in the Abraham Moss Centre, Crumpsall.
The Abraham Moss Library, on the ground floor of Abraham Moss Leisure Centre, will be operated by Manchester City Council and Manchester Sport and Leisure Trust.
The facility is the new location for Crumpsall Library, which was closed for two weeks while preparations for the move were completed. The new library will be open for an extra nine hours per week and will no longer close on Tuesday mornings, or at lunch times.
The library will be open from 9am – 5pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and from 9am – 8pm on Wednesdays.
Residents will be able to browse a selection of popular books, log on to internet-ready PCs and collect reservations.
Building work on a new joint reception area for the library and leisure centre is scheduled to be completed within two weeks, after which, members will be able to use self-service facilities to return and renew books even when the library is closed.
Councillor Rosa Battle, Executive Member for Culture and Leisure, said: “The library needed to move to a site that made it more visible and accessible to the community. This is the first time a Manchester library has opened in a joint facility with a leisure centre and the move allows us to offer a better service for our residents.”
Rebecca Livesey, Chief Executive of Manchester Sport and Leisure Trust, said: “We’re thrilled to open our doors today with the additional library facilities included. This is clearly a welcome addition that will enhance our existing provision within the local community, and also means we can now cater for those looking to exercise their mind as well their body, all under one roof”.
