THE ACHIEVEMENTS of Lancashire’s young people will be celebrated at a prestigious awards ceremony early next year.
And, as in previous years, the people of Lancashire will play a key role in deciding which young people are shortlisted for the Celebrate Youth finals event.
The event is being organised by Lancashire County Council’s young people’s service. It will take place at Burnley Mechanics on the evening of Tuesday, February 17.
“We’re asking anyone who works with young people to consider whether any of them is doing or has done something that deserves recognition,” said Matthew Tomlinson, the county council’s cabinet member for children, young people and schools.
“This is your chance to nominate a young person between the age of 12 and 19, or up to 25 if they have special educational needs, for a major Lancashire award. Whatever the achievement, whether sporting or artistic, volunteering or making a contribution in their local communities, please make sure you tell us about it.”
Young people can be nominated individually or in groups in the following five award categories;
*Beyond Barriers
*Inspiring Volunteering or advocacy
*Improving Lives
*Outstanding Personal Achievement
*Youth Group of the Year
Matthew added: “If it’s anything like last year, we’re going to have a lot of high quality nominations to sift through. I know one thing, selecting the winners will be difficult because I continue to meet hundreds of young people around the county who are making a tremendous contribution to their communities, either as individuals or members of a group.
“I will be attending Celebrate Youth next February and look forward to meeting Lancashire’s outstanding young people.”
Nominations should be returned by Wednesday, December 17.
