Blackpool Celebrates Arts Awards for Young People

Some of Blackpool’s most talented young arts students are set to be honoured at a special ceremony at the Grundy Art Gallery 10th February.

The young people, who range from 12 to 17 have all gained Bronze, Silver or Gold Arts Awards – an accredited industry qualification – in either dance or combined arts.

All the 23 of the successful students have worked to achieve their awards with Blackpool Council’s Arts Service as part of the annual Arts Award Programme, now in its eighth year.

Families, parents, councillors and others who have helped the group to achieve their success have now been invited to a special ceremony to see the youngsters perform and receive their awards.

Cllr Christine Wright, Blackpool Council’s cabinet member for culture and heritage, said: “This event is a celebration of the success of our fantastic young people and their achievements.

“We often hear negatives about young people in today’s society but there are many more positives and I want people to come together and share in the celebration of the fantastic things they do.

“Blackpool is a place where we encourage ambition and aspiration and we need to celebrate our young people and help them to realise that, with the right support and hard work, they can achieve anything they want to.”
