Lancashire: Trace your World War 1 family history

Lancashire County Council’s libraries are helping people to discover their WW1 ancestors online.

Staff from the county council’s community heritage team will hold a number of ancestry surgeries across the county in May and June.

The one-to-one sessions will show people how to use the internet to research their family history at the time of WW1.

Fiona McIntyre, community heritage manager, said: “The surgeries are 30 minutes long and very hands-on. They include tips on how to use helpful sites such as Ancestry.

“Anybody who has an ancestor who was involved in WW1 and wants to find out more about them are welcome to come along.

“We’ll look at the records available and any other useful sources of information.

“These sessions are useful for anyone who simply is interested or who wants to take this further and work on their family tree. Maybe they have already started their family tree and have got a bit stuck with their research.”

The sessions are free to attend but booking a 30 minute slot is essential as places are limited.

They will take place as follows:

Friday 15 May, 10am to 5pm, Chorley Library

Monday 18 May, 9am to 5pm, St. Anne’s Library

Wednesday 20 May, 10am to 6.30pm, Clayton Green Library
