Rochdale SOUP is inviting the local community to come forward for their first event on Tuesday 31st May. SOUP’s are a proven model originating from Detroit and have spread across the U.K.
This is open to the whole of Rochdale borough and they are looking for individuals, community groups and organisations with ideas to help the local community.
Museum Officer Jordan Diggle at the Rochdale Pioneers Museum said: “SOUPs are about gathering the community to listen to each other’s ideas, sharing a meal and taking control of Rochdale’s future. The donations raised on the door are granted to the winner of the most successful pitch.”
Anyone can apply to pitch their idea and those who attend will be called upon to democratically vote for a winner. This provides the opportunity for Rochdale to inspire and promote experimental, critical and imaginative projects that may not qualify for normal funding.
“SOUP also goes beyond financial assistance” Jordan explains. “SOUP is about creating a space that people can connect, share ideas, resources and where new networks of support and community can flourish. The aim is to create a community hub for Rochdale and encourage co-operation within the community.”
Whether you are an individual, group or organisation and wish to get involved or apply to pitch at the next event on Tuesday 31st May, email: rochdalesoup@outlook.com.
