Blackpool celebrate success at Global Entrepreneurship Week

Business leaders at Blackpool Council’s Enterprise Centre are celebrating a successful week in hailing in a new era of entrepreneurs.

More than 100 budding business owners attended a number of free events at the South Shore business centre as the resort held its first ever Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW).

GEW is the world’s largest campaign which promotes entrepreneurship and this year, for the first time, Blackpool was one of its top partners in both the North West and the UK.

The events at the Enterprise Centre ranged from securing finances for your businesses, exploring the road to enterprise through to marketing your business and an introduction into finding customers online and promoting your company through various social media platforms.

There was also a chance to work with Blackpool Council’s Trading Standards department and support about how to win that vital pitch in front of prospective clients.

It is hoped the events at the Enterprise Centre will influence a new era of entrepreneurs following the success of Blackpool Council’s Get Started service which has helped launch around 1,000 new companies along the Fylde coast, over the past 8 years.

Following the success of the events the Council’s Business Support Team will put on more seminars and workshops, attracting more leaders to the Enterprise Centre to talk about their experience in the world of business.

Cllr Mark Smith, Cabinet Member for Business and Economic Development, said: “We are delighted that Global Entrepreneurship Week has been such a success in Blackpool. The events at the Enterprise Centre show there is a real zest for business in the resort.

“With such a variety of events taking place, we are further encouraged by the range of people coming through the doors with fresh ideas for business and we hope to work with them more closely in the future to make their dreams a reality.

“The Enterprise Centre is the ideal place to start and grow your business with excellent facilities and experts on hand to guide new companies through what can be a trying experience of setting up a business and surviving and thriving.”
