Blackpool Council is on the lookout for community superheroes!

For some time now, there have been vacancies available for three new lollipop men or women who will provide a backup in the case of absence or illness.

But no one has come forward to take on the roles, which are seen as an ideal opportunity for local residents who are either retired or out of work and looking to supplement their income and provide a good service to the community.

Cllr Fred Jackson, Blackpool Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for highways, said: “Our lollipop men and women provide an extremely valuable service to the community.

“With their distinctive uniforms, in the eyes of young children they really are community superheroes who have the power to protect them from danger when they cross the road.

“In the eyes of parents too they are valuable allies in keeping their children safe.

“It is a tremendously rewarding job and I know many of our current team members really enjoy their work and the social interaction it provides.

“I do hope someone will come forward and become a superhero themselves!”

A poster campaign has now been designed to raise awareness of the posts and promote the jobs and will be circulated soon.
