Blackpool Youth Choir to sing with Opera Star

Choristers from Blackpool schools are set to star alongside international vocalist Russell Watson, when he heads to the resort’s Opera House on Saturday 29 March.

Blackpool Council’s music service were asked to help create a positive, local feel for the show by using their talented choir of young people to accompany Russell when he performs “Panis Angelicus” (which translates as ‘bread of angels’).

Blackpool Music Service Youth Choir includes young people from almost every local school and were delighted to receive such a prestigious invitation.

With rehearsals now well underway and excitement building, the children are keen to rise to the occasion.

Russell, meanwhile, is looking forward to performing with his new supporters.

“I am delighted to be once again returning to Blackpool and I can’t wait to sing with the choir on stage,” Russell said.

“I think Blackpool Music Service is a great organisation. This performance will give the children a chance to perform in front of over 2500 fans.”

Cllr Ivan Taylor, Blackpool Council’s cabinet member for children’s services, added: “We were approached a few weeks ago by Russell’s management and asked to take part and, naturally, we were absolutely delighted to say yes.

“This is a fantastic chance for these young people to showcase their talent to a huge audience and show all that is good about young people from Blackpool.

“I know they will be extremely excited and some will be nervous but I am sure they will do very well.

“It’s a marvellous gesture by Russell to do something like this and this is what the choir is all about; raising aspirations and showing young people they can do something really special.”

Last remaining tickets for Russell Watson’s Blackpool show on Saturday 29 March are now available online at www.gigsandtours.com or directly from the Winter Gardens Box Office.
