This month sees a library in Hyndburn celebrating its 100th anniversary.
Oswaldtwistle Library, on Union Road, reaches its centenary on Friday 30 October and has planned a special event to mark the occasion.
The library was officially opened by Councillor Arthur Hargreaves in 1915. It has been open to the community throughout this time, enjoying a refurbishment in 2009.
County Councillor Marcus Johnstone, Lancashire County Council cabinet member for environment, planning and cultural services, said: “The fact that this library has been open for so long shows how important it is to the local community.
“I hope people go along on the day and enjoy the events we have planned and celebrate with us.”
Visitors will be welcomed to the event by County Councillor Johnstone at 2.30pm. Activities during the afternoon include a performance by local choir the Conchord Singers, and a crafts session including face painting and Henna hand painting for younger visitors.
A display of Oswaldtwistle photographs will also be on display.
Anyone who lives in the UK can join a Lancashire library, either online or by visiting in person. It’s free and there are no age restrictions.
