Talented local artist, Julie Miles, will be at Lancaster City Museum for a special event on Friday 1 May.
From 12.30pm, Julie will be talking about her work and demonstrating techniques used in the recent ‘Characterful Creature Creations’ workshop at the museum.
This workshop is part of Lancaster Arts City’s ‘First Friday’ initiative, designed to give people a chance to try something new at the start of each month.
Lancaster Arts City is a collection of professional arts organisations who have joined forces to promote Lancaster as an exciting cultural destination. The aim of the organisation is to showcase excellent arts activity across Lancaster and Morecambe for both residents and visitors.
‘Characterful Creature Creations’ was part of the ‘King of Cats’ touring contemporary art exhibition based on Lancashire folklore running at Lancaster City Museum.
Heather Dowler, Lancashire County Council’s manager at the city museum, said: “This is a great opportunity to come along to meet Julie and get an insight about some of her techniques used to create the ceramic sculptures in the ‘King of Cats’ exhibition.
“Julie will give a talk about her new techniques as well as demonstrate how she created her creatures in clay for the exhibition.
“Julie’s talk will last for about an hour and there will be a chance to ask questions at the end as well.”
The workshop is suitable for all levels of ability and booking isn’t required.
Entry to the museum and workshop is free.
The ‘King of Cats’ exhibition runs until Sunday 17 May. Opening times are 10am to 5pm, Tuesday to Sunday. ‘King of Cats’ is funded by the Arts Council.
The museum is run by Lancashire County Council on behalf of Lancaster City Council.
As part of this exhibition, there’ll be a workshop called ‘Clay the Wouda Way’ with artist Marjan Wouda on Sunday 26 April, 10am – 4pm.
A workshop is also available that will support the continuing professional development of teachers. ‘Rain Washes and Resist Moors’ with artist Christopher Rainham will be held on Wednesday 29 April, 10am – 4pm.
Booking is essential for both of these workshops. Entry to the museum is free but the ‘Clay the Wouda Way’ workshop costs £45 to attend and the ‘Rain Washes and Resist Moors’ workshop costs £80 to attend. These costs include all materials and equipment used, but does not include lunch.
