Preston Family Fest Day, 25 October

preston family fest fun day

Preston’s historic Flag Market will become an outdoor cinema as part of a Familyfest, a free to attend, city-wide day of events aimed at attracting families to Preston city centre.

The Business Improvement District (BID) will show four family favourites on a huge screen set up in the heart of the city centre on Saturday, October 25.

A covered grandstand will be set up for crowds to be able to watch the films which include Disney hit Frozen, The Lego Movie, The Chronicles of Narnia and the original version of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory.

BID’s Chair John Boydell said there would be further entertainment laid on across the city centre throughout the day.

He said: “By bringing the free outdoor cinema to the Flag Market, the BID hopes to be able to show families what Preston city centre has to offer.

“We are laying on a series of classic family films which will be screened completely free of charge.  We are a truly family friendly city, and events like this are our way of saying, come and enjoy Preston; everyone will be made most welcome”.

“Our only hope is that we can fill our covered grandstand with as many families as possible to enjoy the films, but spaces are strictly limited so we would advise people to turn up early.

“So, kids, you can bring grown-ups if you wish!”

The movies will be presented by BBC Radio Lancashire and introduced by Lancashire favourite John ‘Gilly’ Gillmore, with some characters from the films on show expected to put in an appearance on the day.

BBC Radio Lancashire’s managing editor John Clayton said: “It’s an amazing idea and we’re delighted to be involved in what will be a first for Preston and hopefully become a regular event.”

Movies will be screened throughout the afternoon:

12noon
Disney’s Frozen

2.00pm
Lego The Movie

4.15pm
The Chronicles of Narnia

6.45pm

There’ll be lots of entertainment across the city centre on the day including Welly Bobs Farm, visiting the plaza on Lune Street.
